A Poem for Veterans Day

Standard

Today we remember those who are walking in silence,
In order to ensure each citizen’s safety they allow themselves to be accompanied by violence,
They choose to dedicate their lives to our protection,
If not their gaze be met with respect then turn the other direction,
As this nation stands divided,
They are still united,
Their cause stands without blame,
Yet, are we not the same?
The rights we practice came at a cost,
That was purchased with the lives that they lost,
No matter each individual’s history,
Their selflessness acts enough like a victory,
Our honor, respect and pride they have continually earned,
Although, from them there remains much we must come to learn.
